SG1: AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT IN CLASSROOM. Assessment involves gathering information on student's learning in order to make informed decisions and improve instruction consistently. One type of measurement is the authentic assessment. I perceive this kind of assessment as a meaningful tool as this require students to significantly apply the knowledge and skills that they acquired in a more authentic setting. I discover that this kind of assessment also helps students to become an active participants who are working on a relevant tasks and a useful tool that encourage teachers to reflect on the essence of what they are teaching to provide results crucial for improving instruction. Additionally, I realized that authentic assessment together with traditional assessment and achieving the balance between these two methods can offer an essential benefit towards the learning of the students.
SG2: PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT. Performance assessment is really useful on assessing the student's ability to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned throughout their unit of learning. It is of huge instructional advantages especially in physical education where it mostly highlights a performance task. As a future teacher, I found out that directly observing the learners who are performing a task that replicates an activity in real world context provides an efficient way to measure what the students can do with what they know or their ability to apply the knowledge they gained. Through performance assessment, a teacher can deliver appropriate measures to enhance the abilities of the learners.
SG3: AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT OF THE AFFECTIVE DOMAIN. As a learner, I know that our teachers in school are doing their best to know more about their students and recognize their affective traits such as attitudes, values, interests etc., as well as how these particular factors affect and influence student's learning. In line with this, I discover that my attitude and motivation towards learning have a great impact on how I see myself as a learner and how I perceive any subject matter or informations. Thus, as a future teacher, I figured out that the importance of assessing affective domain just as cognitive domain is also a must. It is significant to measure what students will do in the future and it is my future job to gain insights about how they will act or respond in a certain situation emotionally in order to help them build a positive attitude on learning and promote an appropriate change on their behaviors.
SG4: COMMUNICATING AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT RESULTS. I ascertained that a teacher follows a series of steps to communicate authentic assessment results effectively with different stakeholders like parents, school administrators, and students. I also found out that the process of communicating results begins from determining your audience up to the actual creation of communication. The data to be communicated is not only essential for teachers but also on the other stakeholders. Because through effective and accurate communication of assessment results, the parents and other persons involved can have a useful information to understand the student's progress and help them improve their learning over time.
A portfolio is useful communication medium that can be used by teachers to track their student's progress in learning. It can be a beneficial instrument on collecting evidences of learning as it possesses a lot of advantages. The students who are developing it becomes an active participant in the assessment and learning process. Moreover, portfolio assessment encourage learners to reflect on their performance as well as on their responsibilities for their own learning. Therefore, it is of great value to both teachers and learners. All of us have our own concerns in life but in individuals like teachers who perform different roles inside and outside of the school, one of the challenges they faced is the grading and reporting. I realized that if i'm on their situation, I think I will also feel their struggles especially because grading and reporting is not an easy thing. It has many factors to consider so teachers also have to make many decisions. I discover that grading and reporting system have significant functions when it comes to educative process. These can enhance student's learning and provide crucial information to parents. When appropriately developed, grading and reporting system can ensure a more adequate system that can deliver clear feedbacks beneficial for improvement of the students.
SG5: ASSESSMENT OF ONE'S TACHING PRACTICE. Learning is a continuous process that offer a meaningful knowledge and experience to individuals. As a learner, I figured out that learning alone is not enough, I have to assess myself too. I must do this in order to provide myself a foundation for reflection especially on my own performance. With self assessment, I can boost my self awarenesses as well as be able to control and manage my own learning. Also, I found out that when you are assessing your self, you are encouraging yourself to take responsibilities towards your own learning which can lead to a clear picture of what you need to improve in able to arrive at an adequate performance. Thus, examining your own learning can deliver a valuable insight of your true learnings and by this way, you can certainly determine areas that requires improvement.
