PRINCESS'

AUTOBIOGRAPHY

The moment one learns, a gradual growth sets in. Brian Herbert said that "The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice". All of us have our own different ways on learning because each and every one of us is born with unique traits and characteristics that makes our whole being. Learning is the root of all the dreams that turned into reality. I, myself is also a learner and a dreamer. Silent, cheerful, and simple, these 3 words truly describes me.

My name is Princess C. Lucas, I'm 21 years old. I was born and raised from Macayo, Alcala, Pangasinan. And also a 3rd year college student who is currently taking a BSED major in science at my beloved Alma mater Pangasinan State University Bayambang, Campus. I chose this course because I'm in love with a science subject, specifically in a branch of biology. However, learning give me some lemons too. The experience is not always easy because there are traits in my own personality that strongly influence my learning. Thus, have you ever wondered what learning is really like for someone like me?. For me, the school is a place that is different from real world. It is an ambiance of learning what you need to learn in order to equip yourself with a knowledge that is required to cope up with the challenges outside of it.

My attitude on learning is positive. I am interested in acquiring new knowledge and skills especially when I'm really curious with the topic. I will find a way to understand it more deeply such as searching additional informations in the internet after it is taught. But, I admit that sometimes I usually lost interest in learning things. This leads me to a lesser engagement during class hours. I realized that my interest is a powerful driving force. Personally, I'm a visual and auditory learner because I learn things more easily when I'm reading the lesson aloud and produce a mental picture of it. Yes, I do visualize the things I hear and I find it exciting and somehow funny. Besides, I prefer listening to lectures and discussions in class and reading from notes and feel more comfortable in studying alone than in studying with others.

One thing that motivates me to learn is the way I see myself in the future, I view the content I'm studying as an essential tool that can help me to work towards my dream of becoming a professional teacher. My another inspiration is my family who consistently supports me in reaching my goals in life. In terms of my academic self concept, I rarely do an advance study. I'm only doing this when the lesson seems so interesting to learn or when it is really needed. Also, when learning, I tend to construct my owns ideas based on what information I obtained and definitely explain it by myself. When I'm doing this, I comprehend concepts better. But, there are times that I perceived the topic as a difficult one. That's why I usually lost interest and find the lesson hard to learn. I guess it's just only my mindset that affects me because there are days that I push myself and tried my best and it works. I learned the content of subject successfully. Once in a while when I feel down and not good enough. I'm always reminding myself that it's just normal to have these feelings. This what makes my Self-esteem a positive one. Moreover, my failure to learn or study is due to my laziness as well as lack of initiative or effort to gain informations and not in other internal factors. On the other hand, learning helps me to control and be aware of my emotions. The more I learn, the more I see growth in myself. If the learning is water, then I am the plant.

Through it, I am able to grow prosperously. My social relationship with other students make my learning more rich because through group activities, I'm empowering myself to understand, recognize and respect other people as well as give my will to help them as long as I could. In addition, a classroom environment that encourage a positive learning atmosphere enables me to feel more confident about the things that I'm studying no matter how complicated it is. Furthermore, I'm an optimistic person but when anxiety defeats me, I feel like I'm a statue stuck in a sealed box.

And there's no way to escape from it. I'm slowly learning now because of the anxiety brought by the pandemic we are suffering today. There are many distractions in our home unlike in face to face learning where I can definitely concentrate on studying. Above all, learning is a continuous process, we can never stop learning new things throughout our lives because we are destined to acquire knowledge and skills not just in school but in our daily experiences too. It is what make us a bold individuals who are capable on dealing even in times of uncertainties.

As I see it, my learning journey is like a roller coaster ride, there are many ups and downs. It is a heartshaker. However, the feeling of enjoyment and mixed emotions it provides, make my learning as a wonderful and meaningful adventure.
